Tony Woods Xmas Special « Result #6 on Nov 23, 2010, 11:22am »
CENTURY ENTERTAINMENT PRESENTS TONY WOODS XMAS SPECIAL
Urban comedy legend returns to Melbourne for one night only, 19 December.
Tony Woods, the one-of-a-kind comic who’s always in control of his audience. His playful, cool demeanor and his sharp and mischievous subject matter had The Footy Show declaring him their favorite act ever!
Born in North Carolina and raised in the D.C. area, Woods kicked off his career on HBO’s Def Comedy Jam and is who David Chapelle got a lot of his comedic inspiration from. “Yeah there is some truth to that, but he is not the only one, a lot of other comedians have adapted my style, he just happens to be the richest and is the most well known…a household name. God bless them all.” Laughs Tony.
Some comedians write jokes, others live them. Tony Woods is the latter. The hilarious mishaps and mix ups that happen to this top comedian contrast with his smooth, dry-witted persona to come up with a comedy style that is truly unique. His past trips to Australia, and his travel mishaps provide the basis for many of Woods’ fish out of water tales and Australians love him for it. Australian audiences connect with Tony so well as the only person more laid back than an Aussie is Tony Woods.
Tony’s recent appearances Comedy Central Presents Tony Woods, Comedy Central USO Tour, and Comedy Central World Comedy Tour have made him a comic favorite of international renown. He has also appeared on Last Comic Standing, A&E’s Caroline’s Comedy Hour, Showtime At the Apollo, NBC’s Friday Night Videos, Just For Laughs, NYPD Blue, HACK, Late Night with Conan O'Brien and HBO Comedy Spot Good News Week and The Sydney Comedy Festival 2010.
A regular at Montreal Just for Laughs Comedy Festival, The Edinburgh Festival, HBO US Comedy Arts Festival-Canada Sydney and Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Tony ‘wows’ his audience and you would be crazy to miss this untamed beast in action!
Don’t miss Tony Woods in Melbourne Sunday December 19th 2010 at Chapel Off Chapel
“One of the funniest men on the American circuit” Time Out Sydney, 2009 “A legend at the top of his game” – New York Times “Tony's cool demeanour and sharp delivery provide sublime comedic entertainment. Satisfaction guaranteed” Chortle “really, really funny” DRUM Media, 2008
2 of L.A.'s top casting pros: Sydney masterclasses « Result #7 on Jul 2, 2010, 1:34pm »
Between them, theyʼve cast “The Hangover”, “Blades of Glory”, "Four Holidays", "The Breakup" and currently direct the casting department of one of the worldʼs biggest production companies!
From the 13th-18th July 2010, the Professional Actors Workshop Series (PAWS) offers Australian actors an unbelievable opportunity to learn first-hand from industry-leading casting professionals, flown in from Los Angeles exclusively for these workshops.
Seth Yanklewitz and “Steve” (see below for mini-bios) are at the very top level of their industry, but have never traveled to Australia before - making this an even more remarkable experience. These are NOT their associates or assistants: these are the real decision-makers! Offering specialized workshops directed at actors of varying levels of age and experience, PAWS is a not-to-be-missed chance for any Australian actor hoping to gain a competitive edge in the world of film & television.
WHEN: individual workshops are 6 hours long and run July 13-18 WHERE: AIPA – 40 Merrenburn Ave., Naremburn NSW HOW MUCH: $310 (+GST) for one session (6hrs) MORE INFO: http://www.aipapaws.com.au or call 02 9966 5425
This is an incredibly rare chance to work with casting professionals who donʼt generally do this sort of thing!
"The casting directors we met are the best in the business and they never give workshops, so to have the opportunity to find out exactly what they want in actors and how to stand out is rare… Normal acting training gives you the basic set of skills that every actor has. PAWS gives you that extra edge of knowing the LA industry, your place in it and the secrets of the casting process from the ultimate insider: the casting director. PAWS is the best experience I have had and I wouldnʼt trade it for anything." - Daniella Serrett, actor
“As an American agent that has re-located to Australia, I would highly recommend the Australian Professional Actors Workshop to any actor that has aspirations on an international level. It gives actors an opportunity to learn and see how the business works from seasoned professionals that have a wealth of experience and knowledge to share.” – Rob Woodburn, Encompass Entertainment Group
SETH YANKLEWITZ: Blockbuster casting credits include: “The Hangover”, “Blades of Glory”, “All About Steve”, “The Breakup”, “Four Holidays” & “Drillbit Taylor” and feature actors such as Vince Vaughan, Reese Withersthingy, Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Aniston, Owen Wilson, Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis… the list goes on. He has given unknowns a break and he knows just how to make actors feel relaxed and appreciated in the audition room, a skill he brings to the classroom as well.
“STEVE”: is the Director of Casting for one of the worldʼs biggest production companies. Based in Los Angeles, he has a great eye for talent and actors who have worked with him love his straightforward, but giving manner. In this workshop, he will run audition scenes; explain what he looks for at studio level and help actors understand the differences and expectations. Due to a contractual agreement, we cannot print Steveʼs name, however, we are happy to speak with interested actors to ensure that they know all about the workshop, its facilitator and his expectations beforehand.

The Rehearsal Room « Result #9 on May 28, 2010, 10:38pm »
We'd like to start off this board with a personal recommendation for the courses held at The Rehearsal Room, run by Australian TV director, Richard Sarell.
The Rehearsal Room uses simple principles. This means the actor can be in control of their choices. They can change performance easily, quickly and confidently.
Professionals everywhere use processes that produce a high percentage return. It's no different for actors. You need to use an approach that has the most chance of producing a good outcome.
To give you some information about the courses on offer:
Screen Acting Classes (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced and Masterclass levels - weekly classes/workshops held each term)
The WORKSHOP that refines and defines the screen acting process.
Because Rehearsal Room workshops clearly identify a performance process they improve the practical outcomes of actors choices. This enables the actor to identify and remedy problems efficiently and effectively. The Rehearsal Room process makes actors better auditioners and therefore improves the chances of employment.
This workshop explores the fundamentals of good performance process. It is a clear and simple view of the Stanislavsky approach, useful both as a refresher (for the experienced actor) or as an introduction to performance process.
Its particular focus is television but its application is universal. It explores - how to create the image of a complex character, identifying subtext, labeling subtext, playing subtext, building trust, active listening, defeating tension, how to play surprises, how to prepare for a take and what the camera really sees - plus much more. The final on camera exercise is a practice audition.
TV Presenter's course Practical WORKSHOPS that build professional skills in TV Presenting & Voice Over
Jules Lund ("Getaway", "Dancing on Ice", "Things to Try Before You Die") believes that the skills he learnt at the Rehearsal Room are very useful in his current role as a presenter.
"The Rehearsal room classes taught me the value of 'story' and the discipline of structure. The thing that's useful about this is that once I've got my vision and I understand it, I don't go off track too much. The sense of story keeps me on track.
I use heaps of The Rehearsal Room stuff … having basic performance skills in place is really important. Using your centre of gravity is really helpful because you can still be relaxed but it keeps you actively engaged … listening … alive. For me putting a 'need' in place is really helpful - that's fundamental. My need is 'to share', that's the one I always use. It helps a lot. It helps make it a story I can tell. There can be a trap if I don't take ownership of the story and make it mine to tell. I still use the 5 point checklist … make sure I am externally focused … all that stuff we learnt about in the Rehearsal Room. I do it because it works."
- Jules Lund (Getaway; Dancing on Ice), May '04

ABOUT RICHARD SARELL
Richard Sarell has been directing TV drama for over 25 years. His shows have won awards for Best Actress, Best TV Series, and been nominated for an International Emmy.
This experience brings a hands-on practical approach to the acting process he teaches.
The years of auditioning and directing actors have given him a deep insight into no-nonsense paths to creating good performance.
These classes are not about vague and confusing acting theories. They provide a clear and practical way to efficiently and professionally get on with doing the job either in front of the camera or on stage.
I highly recommend these courses. Richard's classes are a fantastic way to apply Stanislavski technique in a simple, direct and practical way.

Acting Up Message Board changes for 2010 « Result #10 on May 28, 2010, 8:44pm »
Hello to all members of the Acting Up Message Board
As you will have no doubt noticed, things got very quiet around here a while back. This was due to the Acting Up Classes closing down and my getting very busy with other things. Our fabulous board moderators all ended up going off to follow their own dreams (as they should) and so this little part of the web got somewhat dusty, neglected and covered in cobwebs.
During my travels through the industry over the past couple of years, I've run into people asking me "what ever happened to that great messageboard you were running?" more times than I felt comfortable with. So, as of today, this board is back in action.
We've kicked things off with a new section - Other Acting Classes in Australia - mainly because the Acting Up Classes are no more and we know that one of the biggest things asked is "Where can I train as an actor". This new section is not just for universities or colleges or full time courses (although if you are a Director of such a course you are welcome to post here and publicize your classes), but also for part time and evening courses as well as weekend workshops. Feel free to sign up and post your course to the appropriate state to let everyone know what's available.
We've started the ball rolling with two classes in Victoria that we recommend (having done work with both of them), just to give an idea of what you'll find in this new section.
We are also planning a section of more resources for the actor in Australia, as well as more about Casting Agents and film companies.
Thanks for your continued support and see you on the boards!
